Product Features and Considerations:
Corrosion Resistance: The 304 stainless steel grade provides excellent corrosion resistance for outdoor applications in non-marine areas. For decks directly over water or around saltwater pools, a higher grade, such as stainless steel 316, is recommended.
Head Type: These screws feature a countersunk head, often with ribs, which helps them sit flush with the decking surface for a neat finish and helps prevent timber splitting.
Drive Type: The square drive (typically No. 2 or SQ2) is designed to avoid cam-outs (when the driver bit slips out of the screw head) and allows for high torque application.
Point Type: Most products feature a Type 17 point, which is a coarse tapping thread with a sharp, fluted self-drilling point, designed for fast and easy application into timber and to capture wood chips.
Installation Tip: While they are self-drilling, pre-drilling and countersinking is still recommended, especially in hardwood joists, to prevent potential timber splitting or screw snapping.
