Router bits are the cutting tools used with a wood router to shape, join, or decorate wood and other soft materials. 

Essential Types of Router Bits

Straight Bits: The most versatile bits, used for cutting square-bottomed grooves (dadoes), mortises, and rabbets.

Edge-Forming Bits: Used to add decorative profiles or smooth edges. Common profiles include round-over (for smooth curves), chamfer (for 45-degree angles), and ogee (for intricate classic curves).

Flush Trim Bits: Feature a pilot bearing of the same diameter as the cutter, allowing you to trim a surface flush with a template or substrate.

Spiral Bits: Similar to straight bits but with a helical shape that pulls chips up (up-cut) or pushes them down (down-cut) for cleaner finishes in deep cuts.

Joinery Bits: Specialised bits like dovetail, tongue-and-groove, or rabbeting bits specifically designed to create strong mechanical joints.
